Elderly man dies in Tolarbag, family says he was corona positive

An elderly person has died in Mirpur's Tolarbag in the capital on Sunday evening and his family members said they were informed by Kurmitola Hospital authorities that the man tested positive with the novel coronavirus.  

The person, aged around 70, was secretary of the Tolarbag Masjid Committee. He was very close to the person, who died from coronavirus on March 20 and used to live in adjacent building.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP's Mirpur Division Mahmuda Afroze said, "The patient was found coronavirus positive in Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) test."

"He died in the evening on the way to hospital," she added.

His family members told Prothom Alo that the man was suffering from cough for last two days, he could not even eat. He was taken to Kurmitola Hospital on Saturday. Doctors there released him after collecting sample. IEDCR also collected sample on Sunday morning. His condition deteriorated from the afternoon. An ambulance was called, but the driver refused to carry the patient to hospital after hearing the symptoms. Later he was taken to Kurmitola Hospital again on another ambulance. Doctors declared him dead after reaching at the hospital. 

Earlier on Saturday, Health Minister Zahid Malik announced the second death, a 70-year-old man, from the novel coronavirus in the country. The man was also resident of Mirpur's Tolarbag in the capital.

Later local administration kept 672 families of 40 buildings under "lockdown" in Tolarbag. All entrance gates have been put under lock and no one is allowed to enter or exit from the area.
