Steps will be taken to strengthen women’s position in BDRCS’s managing board

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is planning to recruit at least 30% of its workforce from eligible women candidates.

The Society has incorporated a provision in its five-year plan to create more room for women in work, its secretary general Feroz Salah Uddin said on Monday at an event marking the International Women's Day.

Providing women volunteers with self-protection training and distributing hygiene kits among slum people were among the activities marking the day, reads a press release.

BDRCS Treasurer Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury Helal lauded the role of Red Crescent's female volunteers, officials and employees during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Steps will be taken to strengthen women's position in BDRCS's managing board, he added.

Sanjeev Kumar Kafle, acting head of IFRC Bangladesh country office, Imam Jafor Sikder, Youth & volunteer department director of BDRCS and Dr Shammi Ahmed, senior advisor of IFC also attended the discussion meeting on "woman leadership" at the BDRCS national headquarters at Mogbazar in Dhaka.
