Walton gives employees Tk77cr from profit earnings

Considering the welfare of employees during the ongoing countrywide lockdown-like situation, the country's electronics giant Walton has disbursed Tk77 crore among its employees from profits it earned in the 2018-19 fiscal.

The company took this initiative because it had registered a handsome profit growth that fiscal.

The company's each employee received an equal bonus amount on March 25 from this funding.  

Besides, it also donated over Tk7.5 crore to the government's worker's welfare fund.

SM Zahid Hasan, Walton Group's executive director said the company is doing business following the country's all rules and regulation properly and transparently.

"Walton has gained goodwill in the country's business arena through paying government taxes regularly," he said adding that considering the employee welfare the company disbursed a fund among employees from its profit earnings.

Mentioning another Tk7 crore, the company deposited to the government's workers' welfare fund, he said, Walton is still the top donor to this fund.

The company sources said it following the government instructions, has shut all its offices down to curb the spread of coronavirus infection in the country.

"Generally we have little amount of money at the end of the month. We are very happy for getting bonus from the company during this lockdown-like situation," a Walton employee said thanking the company's initiative.

Uday Hakim, Walton Group's executive director said, they were now producing hand sanitizers and personal protective equipment (PPE) in special arrangements for distributing these to health professionals even amid the closure of the company's all factories.

"The company's board of directors and other departmental heads are regularly monitoring the entire work and are giving necessary instructions in this respect," he added.

Besides, fighting the coronavirus, the local multinational electronics brand has also been conducting awareness and sanitization campaigns at around 20,000 points across the country.

It is also delivering face masks, hand gloves, and hand sanitizers to journalists so that they could protect themselves from coronavirus transmission while performing their official duties.
