Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder said that Walton as well as BUET will work together on the research and development of the electronics and hi-tech products produced in the country.

The BUET VC made the statement during a visit conducted by a group of 11 veteran teachers from the university at the Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL) factory at Chandra in Gazipur on Monday, said a press release issued by Walton.

Both the organisations will be able to make a great contribution to the fourth industrial revolution and also to the revolution of the country's economic development and technological advancement, he added.

Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of BUET Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan, Prof D. Anisuzzaman Talukder, Prof Dr Mohammad Faisal, Prof Dr Asiful Islam, Prof Dr Harun-Ur-Rashid, Dr Ziaur Rahman, Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of BUET Prof Dr Mohammad Mamun and Prof Dr Mohammad Ehsan, WHIL Vice-Chairman SM Shamsul Alam, Managing Director Engineer Golam Murshed and Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited Chairman SM Rezaul Alam were also present during the visit.

After visiting Walton factory, BUET VC Prof. Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder said "Walton has reached a significant level in terms of product quality. Walton has become a strong competitor to foreign brands."

WHIL Managing Director Engineer Golam Murshed said, "Walton's entrepreneurs dreamed that the name 'Bangladesh' would be proudly recognised in the world as a country that manufactures electronics and technology products. To make the dream true, the country's talented people, especially the engineers, are working relentlessly. We have created a field so that young engineers in Bangladesh can do research at Walton. That is why we have taken initiative to work jointly with the engineering universities of the country. This will in turn stop 'brain drain' and the country will be able to utilise the merit it produced."

Few days earlier, 4 engineering universities individually signed memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with Walton to jointly work on research and development of the domestically produced hi-tech product.

These universities were: Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Mechanical Engineering Department of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Industrial and Production Engineering Department of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
