The authorities have taken an initiative to provide updated information and important dates of the under-trial criminal cases through mobile SMS, in an effort to ensure smooth and speedy legal activities.

To facilitate the plan, an agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Law and state-owned telecom company Teletalk on Wednesday, says a press release.

Thanks to the deal, the witnesses and other concerned will be notified through SMS about the dates of appearing before the courts.

AHM Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, joint secretary to the law ministry, and Provash Chandra Roy, general manager of Teletalk, have signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

The initiative has been taken to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The facility will be inaugurated on 18 March and initially be launched in Cumilla and Narsingdi districts on a pilot basis.
