BRRI holds Nabanna Utsab
A number of activities, including colourful rallies, discussion meeting, distributing cakes made of newly harvested rice and cutting rice crop in the field were arranged to celebrate the day, a press release said.
Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) celebrated Nabanna Utsab, festival of harvesting new rice with great enthusiasm on Monday.
A number of activities, including colourful rallies, discussion meeting, distributing cakes made of newly harvested rice and cutting rice crop in the field were arranged to celebrate the day, a press release said.
BRRI Director General Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir, BRRI Director (research) Dr Krishna Pada Halder, BRRI Director (admin) Dr Md Abu Bakr Siddique, heads of different research divisions and sections along with senior scientists and officials took the lead in these activities. Hundreds of people spontaneously participated in these programmes.
Dr Shahjahan Kabir said, "We can make our cultural programmes like new rice festival more lively by observing these types of celebrations. It is required for speeding up our culture so that we can save our young generation from going astray."
The country people can observe the first day of Agrahayon (Bangla month) as the national agriculture day with appropriate zeal and encouragement. Thus, they can reengage themselves with our deep-seated roots.
At the same time, he also emphasised, "We should not be forgetful about the more vital agenda of ensuring fair price to the hard-earned products produced by the toilsome farmers of the country."
