Brac, DAM team up to support human trafficking victims

Brac's migration programme and Department of Agriculture Marketing (DAM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in order to support the victims of human trafficking.

Under this agreement, children and females victims or abroad returnees will train and bring them under economic reintegration, reads a press release.

Director General of DAM Mohammad Yusuf and Head of Brac's migration programme Shariful Hasan signed the MoU at DAM Office in the capital on Wednesday.

Mohammad Yusuf said income from agriculture and expatriate is very important for Bangladesh. The reserves of Bangladesh Bank are strong today because of the remittance.

But people become helpless, especially women, after returning from abroad. "For this reason, we have signed the agreement to train people who returned home from abroad or victims of human trafficking as they can connect with job markets," the official added.

DAM Director Kazi Abul Kalam, Project Director Dewan Ashraful Hossain, Deputy Director Shahnaj Begum, Assistant Director Zahidul Islam, Brac's  Migration Program Officers SM Al Jobayer, Tousif Ahmed Qureshi, among others, were present at the programme.
