State-owned Janata Bank earned Tk484 crore from Beximco Group, including Tk427 crore in rescheduled and restructured loan installments.

Beximco Group, one of the biggest industrial conglomerates in the country, has been named the "Largest exporter and best customer" of 2020 by state-owned Janata Bank.

The bank will officially present the award to Beximco on Thursday.

"We are delighted to learn that Beximco Group has been selected by Janata Bank as its Client of the Year. Having exported goods worth Tk4,700 crore last year, the Group has also become the largest exporter of the bank," said ASF Rahman, chairman of Beximco Group.

The award will serve as a recognition of "our hard work, and as a pleasant encouragement for the Group and its 65,000 employees to undertake even bigger and successful entrepreneurial endeavours," he added.

Since its inception, Beximco has been an export-driven company. It takes pride in being able to contribute to the economy as a "large exporter and one of the nation's largest employers", Rahman said.

The latest export and repayment figures are a testament to Beximco's capability and success amid the global economic slowdown induced by the pandemic.

ASF Rahman said the Group had donated lifesaving drug Remdesivir for Covid-19 patients in public hospitals, and safety and medical equipment for health professionals across the country in line with its corporate social responsibility.

According to an estimate by Janata Bank, exports by the Group last year were valued at Tk4,714 crore.

Janata Bank earned a total of Tk484 crore last year from Beximco Group. The company paid Tk427 crore to the bank in instalments for rescheduled and restructured loans.
