Berger moves to hand sanitiser manufacturing

Berger Paints Bangladesh has launched hand sanitising solution "Mr Expert Advanced Hand Sanitiser" as demand for hand sanitiser and liquid soap has spiked following the coronavirus pandemic.   

Their brand -- Berger Mr Expert Advanced Hand Sanitiser -- is a liquid-based product and comes in a 250ml pack at Tk180.

"The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended two alcohol-based sanitiser formulations to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Berger Paints Bangladesh is commercially producing its hand sanitisers following the WHO formulations," a press release of the company said Tuesday. 

The painting solution provider said in the absence of a vaccine or effective antiviral drugs, personal hygiene is a mainstay of efforts to prevent the virus spread. Since handwashing is not always practical when people are out of their homes, alcohol-based hand sanitisers provide a quick and simple alternative. 

The company said Berger hand sanitisers are being manufactured as the company has received all the necessary statutory approvals and permissions from the Department of Narcotics Control. 

Berger said the Covid-19 pandemic is causing massive disruption in daily life and every organisation including the government is trying its best to tackle the outbreak. 

"Hand sanitisers, as part of personal hygiene, have been playing an important role in preventing the spread of the infection. And being one of the oldest and renowned companies of the country, we believe it is our responsibility to contribute as much as possible during such a situation," said AKM Sadeque Nawaj, general manager (marketing) of Berger Paints Bangladesh.

In the meantime, the company has already distributed hand sanitising items among its dealers and painters to boost personal hygiene and safety. 

Berger is a global manufacturer of paints. The Bangladesh wing of the company started its journey in 1970 with the headquarters in Dhaka.

The brand has its two factories in the capital and the port city of Chattogram. With around 1,000 employee and a countrywide distribution network of above 3,000 dealers, the Bangladesh wing of Berger has an annual turnover of around $240 million.
