Youths kill friend with hammer in Rangpur

A group of youths have killed their friend by beating him with a hammer after an altercation over a game of ludu. 

The victim is Monowarul Islam, 28, a tailor hailing from Munshipara area of Rangpur. 

According to police and family members, Monowarul and some of his friends played ludu on their mobile phones at Munshipara intersection on Thursday. Monowarul won the game and earned around Tk1,200 through betting.

The same night, the victim's friends called him away from his home and engaged in an altercation. The attackers then beat Monowarul with a hammer and severely injured him. They later left him in Dolapara area. 

After being informed by the local people, police took him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition at 11.30pm. He succumbed to his injuries around 3am while undergoing treatment. 

Monowarul's father filed a case with Kotowali police station against three mentioning their names. 

Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rashid said that the police have detained six people in connection with the murder and are interrogating them regarding the incident.
