A 20-year-old named Gias Uddin tragically lost his life on Monday while undergoing treatment for severe burns sustained in an accident involving octane.

The incident occurred around 7:30pm on 1 January in the West Dalu Government Primary School area of Amilaisi union, Satkania upazila, Chattogram.

According to eyewitnesses, Gias purchased octane for a local Union Parishad member's motorcycle that ran out of fuel. The octane was stored in a plastic bottle tied to the side of another motorcycle with a rope.

In a careless moment, Gias chose to use fire in an attempt to untie the rope. This resulted in a sudden explosion, engulfing him in flames.

Local residents immediately rushed to the scene and brought Gias to the burn unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital. However, despite receiving treatment for a week, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday night.

"We received a report of the incident and visited the spot," confirmed Priton Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Satkania police station. "A case of unnatural death is being registered for further investigation."
