Yaba racket: 3 including father, son held in Dhaka
Police also seized 15,375 yaba tablets from their possession during a raid
The police have arrested three alleged yaba peddlers, including a father and his son from the Shyamoli area of Dhaka.
The law enforcers also seized 15,375 yaba tablets from their possession worth around 50 lakh during the drive on Thursday, according to police sources.
The arrestees -- Rasel, 25, Aynal, 47, and his son Ibrahim Sagor, 22, -- all hail from Jashore, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, Abul Kalam Azad.
“On a tip off, we conducted a drive in a house of Shyamoli’s road number 3 on Thursday evening and arrested the culprits,” he said.
Police sources said that Aynal and his two brothers are accused in eight cases filed with Jashore’s Sharsha police station.
During initial interrogation, the trio confessed to shipping yaba tablets from Dhaka to Aynal’s brothers Joynal Mollik, 50, and Badsha Mollik, 44, in Jashore.
They also admitted to running the illegal yaba trade for some time.
A case has been filled with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station against the five suspects on Thursday.
“We caught three of them with yaba tablets and they had already been produced before a court. We applied for a 10-day remand. Further information on the true masterminds behind the racket will come to light after the remand ends,” said Investigation Officer of the case Sub-inspector Sujanur Rahman.
