Workers of Amin Jute Mills stage demos demanding arrears 

Workers of the state-owned Amin Jute Mills Limited, which is not now in operation, staged demonstration in front of the jute mill in Chattogram demanding their payment arrears. 

On Saturday noon, more than one hundred workers, who worked in the jute mill on a temporary basis, participated in the demonstration. 

Workers said when the state-owned jute mill stopped its operation on 7 July last year, the mill authorities promised workers to pay them all of their salaries and other benefits by September that year.

Later on, almost all permanent workers of the jute mill got their dues but the mill authorities have not yet paid Tk20 crore arrears to temporary workers.

When the jute mill was in operation there were some 3000 permanent workers, while similar number of temporary workers also worked there. 

Joining the workers' demonstration, advocate Amir Abbas, convener of Chattogram district unit of Shramik-Krishak-Chhatra-Janata Oikya Parishad, said these temporary workers have not received their dues even after 10 months of closure of the mill.

"If the authorities concerned do not pay these workers' arrears before this Eid-Ul-Fitr, we will stage tougher movements to press home the demand," he added.
