Why flight training in densely populated city, asks BNP’s Gayeshwar
In his brief remarks, Gayeshwar expressed deep sorrow over the incident and prayed for the departed souls.
BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today (22 July) raised concerns about the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) conducting flight training exercises in a densely populated area like Dhaka, following the crash of a fighter jet inside the Milestone College campus premises in Uttara yesterday.
Speaking at a special prayer session (Dua-Mahfil) at the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan, Gayeshwar said, "My question is, why was such a fighter jet training exercise being conducted in a city as densely populated as Dhaka?"
He mentioned that they know that such training usually takes place in remote areas, away from civilians. "So why was this training held in a residential area of Dhaka?"
BNP organised the prayer session to mourn the loss of schoolchildren killed in the tragic incident. Party leaders and activists raised black flags at dawn and wore black badges to observe this national mourning day.
In his brief remarks, Gayeshwar expressed deep sorrow over the incident and prayed for the departed souls. "We are all grief-stricken. There are no words to console such a loss," he said.
He added that even those who survive will not be able to live a healthy life, saying that these children are gone – "how will we wipe the tears of their parents?"
The BNP leader further questioned the authorities, saying, "Naturally, people have questions in their mind that the air force should have prior experience in place for such training in civilian zones.. Who will answer these questions?"
He also raised concerns about whether the aircraft was fit to fly, whether it underwent proper inspection and whether the aircraft's mechanical condition was suitable for training.
He noted that these questions are on people's minds today. "It is necessary to know the answers to these questions."
Gayeshwar clarified that he is not blaming anyone, adding, "The relevant authorities must find and share the answers with the public, so we can ensure that such a tragedy never happens again."
The dua mahfil was conducted by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
