Why do people call RP Saha ‘The Great Philanthropist or Danbir’?
RP Saha spent his fortune in humanitarian causes. He founded ‘Kumudini Welfare Trust of Bengal’ focusing on education and health. Renowned institutions like Bharateswari Homes, Kumudini Hospital, Kumudini Women’s Degree College and Debendra College in Manikganj are under the Trust.
The British Government recognised him by awarding the title of ‘Rai Bahadur’ (a title of honor which was conferred to individual for their exceptional lifelong service in British India).

Many great personalities like Sher-E-Bangla (Tiger of Bengal) A. K. Fazlul Haque, Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardi, Mazlum Jananeta, Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani adored him for his contribution. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also addressed him as ‘dada or elder brother with respect.
This great philanthropist was picked up from his home by the Pakistani army during liberation war and never returned home.
