Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation has withdrawn the country-wide strike after 23 hours as they got assurance of meeting their 11-point charter of demands during a meeting at the office of the Department of Labour tonight.
"The Labour and Employment Minister assured us to meet our demands within a short time. That is why we are withdrawing the strike," President of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation Md Shah Alam Bhuiyan told The Business Standard.
The water transport workers will resume their works from 12:01am on Sunday.
Earlier on Thursday, the federation called for an indefinite waterways strike from Saturday to press home their 11-point demands.
The workers started observing the strike from early hours on Saturday, crippling waterway services across the country.
