The Bangladesh Election Commission will launch a pilot programme in December next to register Bangladeshi-British citizens on the voter list of Bangladesh in London, a press release of the Bangladesh High Commission said today.
The information came up at a meeting with the visiting delegation of Bangladesh Election Commission with the leaders of the Bangladeshi-British community.
Bangladesh High Commission organized the meeting on its premises in London last Sunday while Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem presided.
The High Commissioner also said that the Bangladesh High Commission in London will provide all assistance to the Election Commission for all activities related to registration of voters.
At the meeting Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam elaborated about the registration procedure and distribution of national identity cards to the expatriate Bangladeshis. Leaders of different professions and classes of the Bangladeshi-British community participated in the meeting.
The Election Commissioner sought cooperation of the Bangladesh High Commission, leaders of different local organizations, representatives of various chambers and electronic and print media for providing an updated list of Bangladeshi-British citizens.
