Several hundreds of vehicles stuck in a tailback at Paturia ferry ghat since last night due to the onrush of homebound people to enjoy the three-day holiday including 21st February, the International Mother Language Day.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) sources said around 1,000 vehicles including passenger buses and trucks remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia ghat from yesterday night.

Salam Hossain, BIWTC manager (commerce) of Aricha office said, "There are 17 ferries in this route, but one is not operational due to technical issues."

"We are facing extra pressure of passenger buses as the country is going through three government holidays from Friday. We hope that the problem will be solved within this evening," he added.
