VAT detectives have filed a case against International Tobacco Industries in Chattogram for using illegal band rolls.

The detectives in an unannounced inspection Wednesday of the cigarette factory premises in Chandgaon industrial area of Chattogram found band rolls attached to 60 cartons of cigarettes on the factory floor.

According to the VAT Act, each cigarette packet has to use a new band roll provided by Security Printing. But the VAT detectives think that the cigarette factory tried to evade VAT by using old and used band roll.

They seized  6 lakh sticks of brands called 'Sahara' and 'Express' worth of Tk24 lakh for illegal use of band roll that resulted in Tk 17.30 lakh worth of VAT evasion.

Deputy Director of VAT Detective Tanvir Ahmed led the operation based on a tip-off.
