State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak emphasised using technology as a powerful tool to ensure equal rights for all citizens including persons with disability.

The government is implementing various programmes in this regard, the minister said at a virtual programme while inaugurating Emporia, a software for the use of persons with disabilities in the country.

The software has been developed under the ICT Department's 'Empowerment of All Disabled Persons with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD) through Information Technology' project.

Palak, who was the chief guest of the event, said, "The digital platform "Emporia" has been created for the persons with disability to establish a non-discriminatory and inclusive society dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."

He said educated persons with disabilities come to Dhaka from different parts of the country to face interviews at the job fair organised by the ICT department. The platform would play a vital role in reducing their time and money.

The minister said the Emporia platform would act as a bridge between a person with a disability and a potential employer. It will enable them to receive training on ICT, submit their resumes and job interviews via online video conferencing.

He said the ICT department has taken initiative to provide various IT training to enable persons with disability to meet their needs. He called upon all able-bodied persons to come forward to ensure equality and rights of persons with disabilities.

Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Parthapratim Dev presided over the programme. Among others, NM Ziaul Alam, senior secretary of ICT Department, Enamul Kabir director of BCC, Khandaker Zahurul Alam, executive director of CSID spoke at the programme.

The Emporia software was created with the inspiration of renowned autism expert Saima Wazed Putul. Link to access the software: https://emporia.bcc.gov.bd/.
