US delegates laud government’s drive against terrorism, corruption

A delegation of five US senators on Friday expressed satisfaction over Bangladesh government's ongoing drives against terrorism, narcotics and corruption.
The US delegates – Luis R Sepulveda, James Skoufis, John C Liu, Kevin Parker and Leroy Comrie – are visiting Bangladesh for the first time.
They were addressing a meeting on the development of the RMG sector in Bangladesh at the convention hall of the Nasim Osman Memorial Park in Narayanganj. Local lawmaker Shamim Osman presided over it.
Leaders of different organisations, including the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and the district bar association and people from all walks of life were present at the meeting.
After the meeting, the US senators visited a number of modern RMG factories at the BSCIC Industrial area in Fatullah.
The delegates talked to factory workers and learned about the facilities they enjoy.
Later, the visiting delegation praised the initiatives taken by the authorities in improving the sector.
The US senators also assured Bangladesh that they will recommend their country's higher authorities for playing a better role in developing Bangladesh's garments industry.
Later Shamim Osman told the newsmen, the foreign ministry gave him the responsibility of informing the visiting US senators about the current situation of the garments sector of the country.
Osman arranged meetings between the US delegation and leaders of different organisations, so that the senators could see the real picture of this industry.
