A member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed in an alleged gunfight with Bangladesh Army personnel at Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Suman Chakma, who is the prime accused of Naniachar upazila’s chairman Shaktiman Chakma murder.

Rashedul Alam Khan, assistant director of the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), confirmed the information to The Business Standard.

A source said an army team came under an attack by the terrorists while patrolling in the area. The team also fired back in retaliation, triggering a gunfight.

Suman was found dead after the gun battle. The army officials also seized two pistols from the spot.
