Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has asked the corporate users to get their mobile phone SIM cards registered.
All the mobile operators will have to disconnect unregistered corporate SIMs in December if they are not registered by November 30, reads a BTRC press release.
The regulatory body took this decision to fight digital crimes associated with the use of these unregistered SIM cards, said a BTRC official.
"If the information of the SIM users is not updated, the operators will deactivate the accounts forever," he said.
Many SIMs are now registered against biometric verification of an organisation's focal point officer. But there is no data about the other employees of that organisation who are using the SIMs.
Now the regulatory body wants the biometric authentication and data of those people.
Authorities have been receiving allegations of extortion, abduction, and terrorism, committed using these SIMs.
Two Grameenphone officials were arrested with 500 plus unregistered SIMs last year. From then on, the regulatory body started taking action against such unregistered SIMs.
