UN to support Rohingyas who survived today’s boat capsize

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) liaising with the Bangladesh government offered to aid the tragic boat accident survivors in Cox's Bazar.
The disastrous boat incident that resulted in the death of 16 Rohingyas happened in the early hours of February 11 off the coast of St Martins Islands in the Bay of Bengal. So far, 68 others have received first aid.
UNHCR and IOM saddened by this tragic loss, along with other UN and NGO partners, offered to assist the Bangladesh government to tend to the needs of the survivors with food, shelter and medical, according to a press release.
The UN has been working with government authorities to raise awareness among refugees and local people on the risks they may face at sea.
Moreover, the UN is also supporting the strengthening of law enforcement capacities to address smuggling and trafficking and to protect those most at risk. Support is also available in the district to trafficking survivors.
