A five-member investigation committee of University Grants Commission (UGC) is now at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) for investigation over several allegations against its Vice-Chancellor Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah.

The team arrived at the campus on Sunday noon to probe 45 allegations of irregularities and corruption against the vice-chancellor.

The committee is headed by Professor Dr Biswajit Chand, UGC Senior Assistant Secretary Jamal Uddin and UGC members Professor Dr Abu Taher and Sheikh Aminul Islam.

A letter signed by the UGC senior assistant secretary and member of the concerned investigation committee Jamal Uddin was sent to seven teachers of the university on 2 March.

A copy of the letter was also given to the private secretary to the vice-chancellor. It was mentioned that the investigation will be held on Sunday.

The committee requested the witnesses to be present along with the documentary evidence of the allegation against the vice-chancellor.

The probe committee is taking the testimony of seven teachers. They are also talking to the accused and looking into the documents submitted related to the investigation.

The UGC probe committee had reportedly found the involvement of Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah in multiple irregularities in the construction of Sheikh Hasina Hall and Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute on the university campus.

Among the 45 allegations sent to the Education Minister in 2019, the Vice-Chancellor has been absent from the campus disobeying the President's directives, covering up admissions fraud and many more.

Mashiur Rahman, general secretary of BRUR Bangabandhu Parishad said, "I have submitted 45 complaints of irregularities and corruption to the Ministry of Education."

We will submit the documents proving the allegations to the inquiry committee, he added.

On Saturday Adhikar Suraksha Parishad, comprising a section of teachers, officials and employees of the university, published a 790-page white paper on 111 allegations of corruption committed by the VC.
