UGC flags 25 private universities red

The University Grants Commission (UGC) flagged 25 universities red. It will publish a notice soon, advising the students no to get enrolled in these educational institutions. 

“We will make the list public as a notification to students and their guardians,” Professor Kazi Sahidullah, UGC Chairperson, told The Business Standard. 

“If any student risks his or her career by getting admitted to one of these universities, UGC would not take any responsibility,” said the UGC Chairperson, while adding that the commission would not recognize the certificates awarded by the blacklisted varsities. 

Few of these black-listed institutions have ownership disputes that have been taken to the court, some do not have approved campus, while others simply don’t have permission to run educational operations.

The commission usually publishes the name of blacklisted universities every year. In 2017, it flagged 16 private universities red, while the number in 2018 was 14.  

UGC Member Professor Dr Akhter Hossain said, “It’s the routine work of the commission.” 

“We request students, as well as their guardians to be aware of the risk. We will not take any responsibility in the event that they chose to enrol in any blacklisted universities,” he said.

Sylhet International University, Britania University, Central University of Sciences and Technology, Southern University of Bangladesh, America Bangladesh University, The University of Comilla, Queens University, Darul Ehsan University, University of South Asia, NPI University, University of Global Village, Time University, First Capital University of Bangladesh, Ibais University, ZH Sikder Capital University and Gono University. 

Moreover, Rabindra Srijankola University, Rupayan AKM Shamsujjoha University, ZNRF University of Management Sciences, Ahsania Mission Science and Technology University, Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah University, Trust University, International Standard University and Brahammanbaria University are on the list.
