Two jailed for falsely advertising about 600 work visas

A mobile court on Monday sentenced two people, including the owner of a recruiting agency, to six months' jail each for illegally running advertisements for the recruitment of manpower abroad.

The taskforce of the expatriates' welfare ministry in association with the Rapid Action Battalion-3 conducted a drive at the Jabbar Tower in Gulshan, Dhaka and arrested Sirajul Amin Romel, owner of the Akhwan Trade International Ltd, and Sazzadur Rahman, marketing manager of the agency.

Executive Magistrate Aminur Rahman, who led the drive, told The Business Standard that the agency published advertisements in the media saying that it had around 600 work visas for five countries including Romania, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. 

But such claims were not confirmed by the embassies concerned.
