Two Chhatra League men killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

Two members of the Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, were killed in what was described as a gun battle with police on Satkhira By-pass road early today.

The deceased are Dip, 22, of Munjitpur area, and Saiful Islam, 28, of Kaliganj upazila.  

Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said, "Kaliganj police and the district detective branch of police arrested the duo on November 28 for snatching Tk25 lakh from bKash."

"When they admitted their crime, the drive conducted by the law enforcers ended in a gunfight," he added.

Two foreign pistols, three bullet shells, one bullet and a motorcycle were seized from the spot.     

General Secretary of the district Chhatra League Sayed Sadikur Rahman said, "The deceased were active members of the wing. I could not imagine this kind of incident could ever happen."
