Travel ban on United Hospital officials over isolation centre fire

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has issued a travel ban on the top officials of United Hospital following the recent fire incident at the hospital's Covid-19 isolation centre that killed five patients.

Gulshan division police officials have confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"No one related to the case is allowed to leave the country as a travel ban has been imposed," said Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Division) Sudip Kumar Chakraborty.

"Those who neglected their responsibility will have to confront the law," he said, adding that no one will be spared for being influential.

Md Rafiqul Islam, senior assistant commissioner of DMP Gulshan Zone, said, "We have already submitted our investigation report to the court. Now we are investigating if the cause of death was negligence."

Earlier, a relative of one of the patients, who was killed in the incident, filed a case against the Chairman of United Hospital, its managing director, chief executive officer, director, doctors, nurses, and other officials of the corona-unit bringing allegation of negligence over the death of five patients in a fire.

On May 27, five patients were killed as a fire originating from the explosion of an air-conditioner broke out at the isolation unit of the hospital.
