Paturia Ferry Ghat has become free of homebound passengers after continuous pressure in the last few days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. In the meantime, the number of operating ferries on the routes has increased at the terminal.

The waiting passengers at the Ghat crossed the river soon after Ghat authorities started operating all ferries on Monday around 4:30 pm. Now, there is no pressure of holidaymakers at the Ghat, except for goods-laden trucks.

Visiting the terminal, this correspondent found three ferries waiting at Ghat 3 with goods-laden trucks are in serial. Truck drivers are very happy as ferry service has resumed after a long wait.

Md Zillur Rahman, deputy general manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Aricha office, said the Ghat has become free of passengers as soon as ferry services resumed as per the directives of concerned authorities on Monday afternoon.

"There is no pressure of passengers and private cars, and only goods-laden trucks are crossing the river now," the official added.

Earlier on 7 May, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) said ferry services would remain suspended in the day from Saturday midnight on all river routes except for transporting goods in the evening.
