Deputy Foreign Minister of Indonesia for Asia Pacific and African Affairs Abdul Kadir Jailani has inaugurated two new Indonesian-made luxury buses that will operate in Bangladesh.

The launching event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on Thursday, jointly organised by the Embassy of Indonesia in Dhaka and Innovative Motors.

While addressing the event, Minister Jailani said the existence of Indonesian-made buses in Bangladesh is expected to be part of Bangladesh's public transport modernisation programme.

"It is the manifestation of Indonesia-Bangladesh bilateral cooperation in the development of the public transportation sector. In addition, the presence of Indonesian buses on Bangladesh roads shows the close business relations between the Indonesia-Bangladesh business actors," he said.

The new buses will be operated for inter-city transportation between divisions, according to the organisers of the event.

These buses have engines made by the Swedish automobile company Scania but the entire body was made in Indonesia by Laksana Bus Ltd. After the frame of the bus was completely manufactured, it was imported to Bangladesh by Innovative Motors.

Some 18 buses made by Laksana Bus Ltd have entered Bangladesh since 2018 through Innovative Motors as a local partner. Innovative Motors imported four Legacy Sr2 XHD Prime buses in September 2022.

Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Heru Hartano Subolo and Managing Director of Innovative Motors Md Faruk Talukder Sohel were also present at the event.
