BRTC driver suspended, depot manager served notice over carrying extra passengers

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has suspended its bus driver and served show-cause notice to its depot manager for carrying extra passengers more than the vehicular capacity.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday evening came across that a BRTC bus (Dhaka Metro- B-11-5798) was carrying passengers more than its capacity while most passengers were without masks.

Later, the minister immediately directed BRTC chairman to take administrative action.

As per the directive, the state-owned transport corporation, suspended its bus driver Sohrab Hossain on Thursday.

Besides, Nur-e-Alam, bus manager, who operated under Mohammadpur depot, has been asked to show cause.

Sources said masks have been made mandatory for bus drivers, helpers and passengers riding the BRTC buses that won't be allowed to carry passengers beyond their capacity.
