Train kills 2 in Gazipur, snapped rail link restored

Two bus passengers including a woman were killed and three others were injured as a train hit a bus in Boliadi area of Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila early Saturday.

The victims could not be identified yet.

Kabir Hossain, station officer of Kaliakoir Fire Service, said that the accident occurred around 4:30am as the Dhaka-bound 'Nilphamari Express' hit the bus, leaving the woman dead on the spot and four others injured.

The injured were taken to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex where another one succumbed to his injuries.

Train official Mostafizur Rahman said that when the train reached Boliadi area, the bus suddenly came in front of the train. The driver tried to stop the train in an emergency way, but the bus overturned.

However, the other passengers of the train were unharmed, he said, adding that the train service on the route remained suspended till filing of this report.

The rail communication between Dhaka and northern parts of the country was disrupted for four hours after the accident.

However, the link was restored around 8:30am after rescue operation.
