Tokon Thaakoor gets bail

Poet and producer Tokon Thaakoor has been granted bail in a case filed against him for embezzling government funds.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Mohammad Noman granted bail on Monday, reports the Kaler Kantho.

Earlier, accused Tokon Thaakoor was produced in court. At that time, the lawyer of the accused applied for his bail, which was opposed by the state.

After hearing both parties, the court granted him bail on a bond of Tk 2,000.

Thaakoor was arrested from the New Market area of ​​the capital around 8:30 pm on Sunday.

According to sources in the case, Tokon Thaakoor received a government grant in 2013 to make "Kata", a film based on Shahidul Zaheer's life.

Of the government grant of Tk35 lakh, Tk13 lakh was paid out from the Ministry of Information for work that was never done. The case for embezzlement of government funds was filed on behalf of the Ministry of Information in 2016.

An arrest warrant was issued against Tokon Thaakoor by the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on 3 October.
