Tk1.5 crore stolen from Gazipur battery factory

Robbers stole Tk1.5 crore from a Chinese battery factory in Gazipur in the early hours of Monday.

The owner of the factory, Wang Hi, 55, was beaten-up by the robbers. Later Wang Hi was rescued and admitted to Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialised Hospital & Nursing College.

Mahbub, officer-in-charge of Kashimpur Police Station said a group of robbers raided the factory in the early hours on Monday. The robbers entered the factory by climbing the boundary wall, stole the money and beat-up Wang Hi, the factory owner. Wang Hi was seriously injured in the head during the attack.

On receiving the news, police came to the spot and detained two people, including Enamul, a security guard at the factory, for questioning.

An official of the factory said, "the robbers stole around 1.5 crore from the factory."

Thoai Ampru Marma, senior assistant commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Konabari Police Station confirmed the matter and said "on suspicion of involvement in the robbery, two people including a security guard were detained. Some of the stolen money has been recovered from them."

He also added that factory authorities claimed that the robbers stole around Tk1.5 crore. But they could not show any evidence to support their claim.  

However, the matter is under investigation.
