Third Dreamliner joins Biman

The third Boeing 787 Dreamliner has joined the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier.  

Flying from Seattle in America, the plane named “Gangchil” on Thursday afternoon landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The new inclusion took the number of planes in the fleet of the national flag carrier to 15, according to Biman.

A joint team of officials from the Biman and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism visited Seattle to receive the delivery of the aircraft from the manufacturer.

This is the ninth aircraft that Biman purchased at over Tk 1,000 crore with the financing by state-owned Sonali Bank.

The brand new 271-seater Dreamliner will fly on international routes,  including London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, according to a route plan of Biman.

In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines made a $2.1 billion deal to purchase 10 aircraft, including four Dreamliners, from the world-renowned manufacturer Boeing. 

Biman has already received delivery of eight, including two 787 Dreamliners, the latest model of aircraft, said a senior executive of Biman.

The fourth Dreamliner is expected to join the fleet in September this year, he said.
