There is discomfort centring gas price hike: Quader
The average gas price was raised by 32.8 percent for the retail consumers in the country with effect from Monday.
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said there is “definitely discomfort” about the latest gas price hike.
He said he talked with the Power and Energy Ministry and the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission about it.
“They told me that before import of LNG the purchase price of gas was Tk7.80 and the price of per unit gas was Tk7.17,” the minister told reporters at his office on Monday.
Replying to a query about corruption in the energy sector, Quader said: “I do not know about this; if you know, please inform me.”
On the brutal murder of Rifat Sharif in Barguna, he said the killers of Rifat will not be spared no matter what their political connections were.
“Whoever is involved with the killing of Rifat – even if they belong to the ruling party – will not be spared,” he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a zero tolerance policy in this regard, said Quader.
Asked about Bahauddin Nasim becoming the state minister for home affairs and the expansion of cabinet, Quader said the prime minister will make the final decision about it after returning from her China visit.
There is a gap between the ministries and the divisions about the appointment of state ministers, he said.
