Textile minister not infected with current coronavirus, but another strain

Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi has been infected with coronavirus 229E, not with the currently deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed it today in a briefing.

The minister is undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

229E is one of seven variants of Coronavirus. It is one of the first coronavirus strains being described. It is linked to common cold symptoms in adults. 229E is associated with a range of respiratory symptoms, ranging from the common cold to high-morbidity outcomes such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis.
