Bangla Academy Director General Poet Habibullah Siraji announced the names of the recipients at a press conference.

Ten authors have been selected to receive the Bangla Academy Literary Award (Bangla Academy Sahitya Puraskar) 2020 for their significant contribution to Bangla literature.

The authors are Mohammad Samad for poetry, Imtiar Shamim for fiction, Begum Akhter Kamal for essay and research, Suranjan Basak for translation, Rabiul Alam for drama, Anjir Liton for children literature, Sahida Begum for research in Liberation War, Aparesh Bandyopadhyay for since fiction, Ferdousi Mojumdar for autobiography, memoir or travelogue, Mohammad Habibullah Pathan for folklore literature.

Habibullah Siraji said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute the awards – either virtually or in-person - amongst the winners at the inaugural ceremony of the upcoming Ekushey Boi Mela.  The award is valued at Tk 3 lakh.

Bangla Academy Secretary AHM Lokman, Poet Pias Majid, were present at the press conference, among others.

Bangla Academy has presented this award to more than 300 poets and writers since 1960.
