Grameenphone pays DSCC Tk9.63cr for using towers
Grameenphone officials handed over the cheque of the amount to DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday

Mobile phone operator Grameenphone has paid more than Tk9.63 crore to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) for using mobile towers in the city corporation area for the last seven years.
Grameenphone officials on Sunday handed over the cheque of the amount to DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh to pay the arrears from FY2013-14 to FY 2019-20, reads a press release from DSCC on Monday.
Regarding the collection of arrears from Grameenphone, Dhaka South's Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque said the corporation has never been able to collect money from mobile phone operators and was being deprived of huge amounts of revenue from this sector due to a lack of proper initiative.
"But under the direction of DSCC Mayor Taposh, we issued letters to all mobile phone operators asking for data on the towers installed in the city. In reply, Grameenphone provided the details of their towers and paid Tk9.63 crore after a series of meetings," he said.
Ariful Haque further said, "We hope other mobile phone operators will also follow Grameenphone and pay all their arrears to the corporation soon."
For the first time, the Revenue Department of the DSCC sent a letter to the mobile phone operators providing services in the South City Corporation area.
According to Section 10(4-297) of the City Corporation Model Tax Schedule 2016, the mobile phone operators in the area of the corporation have to pay one-sixth of the executed contract with the concerned homeowner for installing and using the tower/BTS.
