Its chief financial officer said the milestone is the continuation of the company’s efforts to empower Bangladesh

Grameenphone has reached a new milestone as it brought all its 15,500 base stations across the country under 4G internet coverage.

With this, the grassroots will now be able to use faster internet.

The company reaffirmed its commitment as a partner and an enabler of the country's growth and digitalisation journey, officials said at a programme in the capital on Sunday night.

Twenty-four years ago, Grameenphone embarked on a journey of providing mobile connectivity for all the people of Bangladesh, they added.

Addressing the event as the chief guest, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, "I have continuously emphasised the necessity of nationwide 4G coverage so that the common people in the remotest area may become a part of Digital Bangladesh."

"As Grameenphone has attained the highest number of subscribers, the journey was challenging for them. That is why their success is surprising for us."

"However, we have to get ready for the 5G network as all preparations have been completed from our end to provide the fastest network," added the minister.

In a video message, Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman hoped  to work together and collaborate with all stakeholders further to ensure high-quality services for customers as well as support the national digitalisation and development agenda.

Subrata Roy Maitra, vice-chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, said, "We appreciate Grameenphone's commitment to ensuring high-speed internet across Bangladesh."

"We are now further committed to ensuring the quality of service for all mobile phone subscribers and contributing to their digitalisation and communications needs," he added.

At the event, Grameenphone Chief Financial Officer Jens Becker said the 4G coverage is the continuation of the company's efforts to empower Bangladesh.

"We step forward, unleashing the possibilities through ensuring access to digital services, SME-based solutions, and education platforms."

He further said, "We are firmly committed to boosting customer experience in every corner of urban and rural areas."

Among others, Mohammad Sajjad Hasib, the company's chief marketing officer, spoke at the programme.
