Call drop within the benchmark in Dhaka: BTRC

Users of the country’s largest mobile operator Grameenphone comparatively face lesser call drop in Dhaka city

Call drop in all mobile operators in Dhaka remains within the benchmark, says a report published by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) report released on Wednesday.

Among all private operators, users of the country's largest mobile operator Grameenphone comparatively face lesser call drop in Dhaka city.

Grameenphone has a 0.18% call drop in Dhaka city while the Robi Axiata Limited, Banglalink and Teletalk's call drop rate were 0.37%, 0.31% and 1.31% respectively, according to the report. The benchmark of call drop was 2%.

BTRC has made the report after conducting a comprehensive Qualitv of Service measurement through drive test in different locations of Dhaka North and South City Corporation area from 23 January to 08 February, 2O21.

For the drive, regulatory commission's taskforce made testing 3,293 samples calls in Grameenphone network, 3244 in robi network and 3237 in Banglalink network.

BTRC conducted the dive test in 1,121 km of areas of Uttora, Mirpur, Gulshan, Dhanmondhi, Khilgaon and Jatrabari.

Meanwhile, call setup in Banglalink was found quickest within 5.97 second while the benchmark was 7 second.

The average call set up time in the largest network was 6.22 second while Robi took 6.52 second.

In first eight months of the last year, however, Grameenphone was on the second position of call drop with 46.01 crore interruptions. Robi' had highest call drop at that time with 48.17 crore.

However, the nationwide – telecommunication service quality report will be found after June as the drive is still continues in other areas of the country.

Talking about this, in a statement Grameenphone said "To ensure a better customer experience, Grameenphone is working relentlessly by modernizing the network, rolling out new towers, preparing to deploy additional spectrum and keeping fiber up and running amidst several fiber cut incidents due to development works at roads and railways."

Meanwhile, BTRC's spoke person and Deputy Director Zakir Hossain Khan told The Business Standard that the commission has initiated the drive to ensure expected telecommunication service.

"The commission will take necessary action against the operators if they are found providing poor service," he added.

Currently, there are a total of 17.33 crore mobile subscribers in the country. Of which 8.3crore users registered with Grameenphone network while Robi Axiata Limited, Banglalink Digital Communications and Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd received 5.15 crore, 3.59 crore and 0.55 crore users respectively.
