TCB products to get costlier in Ramadan

During the upcoming Ramadan, the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling soybean oil at Tk100 per litre, which is Tk10 more than the current price, in the open market on the first day of April.

According to sources, soybean oil is selling at a higher price in the domestic market as the price of edible oil has gone up in the international market.

In this situation, TCB has already increased the price of oil by Tk10 per litre and started selling it at Tk90.

However, on the occasion of the upcoming Ramadan, the government agency will start selling its products and the price of oil will increase by another Tk10.

TCB spokesperson Humayun Kabir said, "Sometimes we have to adjust the price of products in different situations. The prices of products have been fixed anew on the occasion of Ramadan."

TCB is selling soybean oil at Tk90 per litre in the open market on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The government agency started the sales in the first phase in the open market on March 17.

On the occasion of Ramadan, the second phase is starting from April 1 by increasing the scale of sales. In the second phase, TCB has increased the price of its products.

The price of pulses is going up by Tk5 per litre. As a result, gram and sugar will be sold at Tk55 per kg. Besides, the price of dates has been fixed at Tk80.

On the occasion of Ramadan, the number of trucks for open market sales will be 500. Of these, 100 trucks will sell goods in the capital. And then gram and dates will be added to the truck sales. The government agency will also sell these products through e-commerce from April 1.

Meanwhile, low-income people earn less during the coronavirus period. On top of that, the prices of daily commodities have also increased in the market.

So the line of people is increasing to buy products from the government agency TCB's mobile trucks at lower prices than the market.

In the last few days, TCB's product sales have increased in different parts of the capital and long lines of people have been noticed there.

Meanwhile, TCB has increased its sales activities due to rising prices of daily commodities this year. It has 10 to 12% of the products that are in high demand during Ramadan.

On the occasion of Ramadan, the agency will sell 26,500 tonnes of edible oil, 18,000 tonnes of sugar, 12,000 tonnes of lentils, 8,000 tonnes of gram and 6,000 tonnes of onions at affordable prices.

According to the TCB, from April 1, a customer will be able to buy a maximum of 4kg of sugar at Tk55 per kg, 2kg of lentil pulses at Tk55 per kg, 5 litres of soybean oil at Tk100, and 5kg of onions at Tk20 per day. Besides, on the occasion of Ramadan, anyone will get 2kg of gram at Tk55 and one kg of dates at Tk80.

Anyone can buy these products through e-commerce or directly through the sales centres without buying from the truck.
