As a symbolic protest, I am standing in line with the people

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh sold onions in Sylhet on Monday and the Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury was seen in line to buy them.

The trading corporation brought out trucks to sell onions in three spots of the city. Around 12:30pm, the mayor got in line with 250 people in front of him at Kinbridge area.

When asked about why the mayor is waiting in line, he said, "The onion market in the country is very unstable right now. A syndicate has skyrocketed the price of the onions and the government is unable to bring it under control. So, as a symbolic protest, I am standing in line with the people."

Sylhet district representative of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, Shahjahan Mia said, "The Sylhet Metropolitan Police seized an illegal shipment of onion that came from India. Those onions are being sold today for Tk45 per kg. However, our employees are struggling as there are too many customers compares to the onions we have in stock. One customer can buy only one kg of onion."
