Suspected robber killed in Ashuganj ‘gunfight’
Police also arrested three other members of the gang from the spot
A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Brahmanbaria's Ashuganj early today.
The deceased, Saddam Hossain, 26, resident of Sarail upazila, was a member of a robber gang, said police.
Police also arrested three other members – Akash Miah, 27, Rid Miah, 25, and Ashraful Islam, 25 – of the gang from the spot.
A joint team of the district detective branch of police, and Ashuganj and Sadar Model Police Stations conducted a drive to arrest the robbers at Jatrapur area of the upazila.
"Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, forcing them to retaliate," said Javed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station.
Police recovered the bullet-hit body of Saddam from the spot after gunfight, he said.
"A pistol, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were seized from the spot," added the officer-in-charge.
