Suspected gold smuggler put on two-day remand

A Dhaka court on Saturday placed an alleged gold smuggler named Motaleb Hossain on two-day remand. 

Motaleb was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with six bars of gold hidden in his shoes.

The investigating officer of the case sought ten-day remand when Motaleb was brought before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Saturday.   

At the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman granted two days remand for Motaleb.

General Recording Officer and Sub Inspector Mahmud Hossain confirmed this to The Business Standard.

According to the case statement, on September 13, 2019, Motaleb was caught with six bars of gold in his shoes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The total weight of the seized bars of gold was 698 grams. He had come from Muscat, Oman, on the BS-322 flight.
