Special lockdown extended for 7 more days in Noakhali

The district administration has extended the ongoing special lockdown for seven more days in Noakhali Municipality and six unions of Sadar upazila citing the continued surge in Covid-19 transmission.

The decision came at the district Coronavirus Control and Prevention Committee's meeting at the district deputy commissioner's office on Thursday.

Earlier on 5 June, a seven-day lockdown was announced in the said areas. District Civil Surgeon Dr Masum Iftekhar recommended the extension on behalf of the district health department.

Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Khorshed Alam said the ongoing lockdown has been extended because of an increase in Covid-19 infections that will be enforced till 18 June 12am.

During the restriction period, all forms of public transports including CNG-run auto-rickshaws will be barred from operating.

Besides, all kinds of shops except pharmaceutical stores will remain closed. Kitchen markets will operate between 8am and 4pm.

Eateries will be allowed to operate for takeaway services only. Meanwhile, all emergency services will remain out of the purview of the restrictions.
