Six burned in generator blast at Jashne Julus in Chattogram
"Six children were brought to the hospital with burn injuries. They are now being treated at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit"
At least six people were burned severely as a generator blasted on a pickup van at Jashne Julus programme in Chattogram city's Lalkhan Bazar area today.
Jashne Julus is a traditional programme, organised on the occasion of the holy Eid-e-Miladnabi by Anjumane Rahmania Ahmadia Sunniya Trust.
The injured are - Rifat Hossain, 10, Nur Nabi, 6, Kawsar, 20, Rafiqul Islam, 13, Yamin, 9, Hridoy, 16. They all hailed from Bakolia area.
Nayek Hamidur Rahman of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost said, "Six children were brought to the hospital with burn injuries. They are now being treated at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit."
Nafiz Alam, assistant registrar of Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, told The Business Standard, "Rifat sustained 40 percent burn, Rafiqul Islam 15 percent and Hridoy's body is burnt upto 11 percent. Three others left the hospital after taking primary treatment."
"Of the injured Rifat's condition is critical," Nafiz Alam added.
On a visit to the burn unit, the reporter saw the burned children were writhing in pain. They could not even speak, while their parents and relatives were lamenting beside them.
Rifat's father Salahuddin said, "We did not know about Rifat's whereabouts from the morning. He did not inform us about joining the Jashne Julus programme."
"On information, we rushed to the hospital and found Rifat severely burnt," Salahuddin added.
Jahangir Alam, father of another injured boy Rafiqul, said, "Rafiq has JSC examination on Monday. But he somehow joined the Jashne Julus with his friends without informing us."
