Shops or anything else on footpaths will be sold at auction: DNCC mayor
He further said that authorities concerned will conduct a combing operation in the city from September 1 to bring those who have not come under tax net
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said construction materials, shops or anything else would be auctioned off immediately if found on roads and footpaths in the city.
The campaign will start from September 7, the mayor told reporters at a press briefing in Kalshi after a visit he made accompanied by the city corporation's divisional officers in various areas of the city on Sunday morning.
During the campaign, the mayor inspected the cleaning, mosquito eradication, road repair, ongoing development work, illegal occupation of sidewalks, illegal advertisement signboards, billboards along the roads and footpaths.
He further said that authorities concerned will conduct a combing operation in the city from September 1 to bring people who are evading taxes under the revenue coverage of the country.
"We will go to people's doorsteps and take measures to bring those who have not come under the tax net," the mayor said.
This special inspection started from Uttara-4 and ended in Banani via Mirpur, Kachukhet, Magbazar and Gulshan.
The next inspection will be accompanied by a magistrate and trucks, loaders, bulldozers etc, he told the reporters.
The beautiful footpaths are being ruined by leaving construction materials on it. These will not be tolerated in this city, said Atiqul adding that action against the hanging wire would also be taken from October 1.
DNCC Secretary Rabindra Shri Barua, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore M Saidur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md Mominur Rahman Mamun, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam and Chief Estate Officer Md Muzammel Hoque, among others, were present on the occasion.
