Shitalakshya launch capsize death toll rises to 34

Five more bodies were found today morning over the launch capsize in the Sitalakkhya River in Narayanganj, pushing the death toll to 34 in the accident.

Deputy Director Mobarak Hossain of Narayanganj River Port confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The Munshiganj-bound launch ML Sabit Al Hasan, carrying around 50 passengers, capsized after being hit by an oil-laden tanker around 6pm on Sunday in Narayanganj. 

Five bodies were recovered immediate after the incident.

Later, 24 more bodies were retrieved on Monday and the launch was salvaged.

Two separate probe bodies were formed by Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner and the BIWTA under the Shipping Ministry to look into the incident.
